Our journey in pictures

Just a reminder to as to where we have reached in our small delve into wild life photography.

Wild life and in particular birds have always been a part of our lives, so we wanted to show some of the beautiful places we have in this country, and also how we have progressed from watching to delving into taking photographs of our passion.

If anyone has places for us to visit in the south of Essex, where we can see any of our counties amazing wildlife, or if you know of hides or simply locations where we can sit and wait for the nature to appear , please let us know.

RSPB

Nature is in crisis. Together, we can save it.”

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is a renowned conservation charity in the United Kingdom dedicated to protecting and preserving bird species and their habitats. The origins of the RSPB can be traced back to the late 19th century, a time when the plight of birds was becoming increasingly apparent due to the effects of rampant hunting and habitat destruction.

The foundation of the RSPB can be attributed to a group of women who were concerned about the widespread practice of using bird feathers in the fashion industry. In 1889, Emily Williamson and Eliza Phillips founded the 'Plumage League', which aimed to raise awareness about the cruel and unsustainable practices of bird feather harvesting for the fashion trade. Their efforts eventually led to the establishment of the Society for the Protection of Birds in 1889, which later received a royal charter in 1904, becoming the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

The RSPB's early work focused on campaigning against the use of feathers in fashion, as well as advocating for the protection of endangered bird species. Over the years, the organization's mission expanded to include habitat conservation, research, and education initiatives aimed at promoting bird welfare and biodiversity conservation.

Today, the RSPB is one of the largest and most influential wildlife conservation organizations in the UK, with over a million members and supporters. The charity's work encompasses a wide range of projects, from managing nature reserves and conducting scientific research to lobbying for stronger environmental policies and engaging the public in birdwatching and conservation activities.

The RSPB's dedication to protecting birds and their habitats has had a significant impact on the conservation movement in the UK and beyond. Through its tireless efforts and commitment to wildlife protection, the RSPB continues to play a vital role in safeguarding the natural world for future generations to enjoy.

“The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the earth.” .
