Landscape photography is a genre of photography that captures images of natural scenes, including mountains, forests, rivers, and the overall environment. We are going to try to convey the beauty and essence of nature as we come across it in our travels.

There are lots of technigues we need to learn such as viewpoints to focus on the arrangement of elements within the picture. We need to learn techniques such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing. The quality, direction, and color of light significantly affect the mood of a landscape photograph. Golden hour (shortly after sunrise and before sunset) is often preferred for its warm, soft light. Experimenting with different angles and viewpoints can create unique images. Low angles can emphasize foreground elements, while high perspectives may reveal vast scenery.

We aim to use our older dslr’s , newer mirrorless cameras, or even high-quality smartphones. We have a small selection of wide-angle lenses are popular for landscapes, our 50mm 1.8 Nikon on our D850 is still widely used so we can capture more of the scene. But we have the new Nikon S 50mm 1.4 for our Z mounts. Essential for stability, especially at our age, in low light conditions or for long exposure shots its best us to use a tripod, especially when trying to capture motion in elements like water, or clouds something we have yet to understands.

Landscape photography is not only about capturing an image but also conveying emotion and storytelling through visuals. Whether for our own personal enjoyment or professional purposes, mastering this art form will involve a lot of practice, observation, and hopefull our deep appreciation for the natural world, which we will try to portray.
